CIVIL AND STRUCTURAL DESIGN OF ELECTRICAL SUBSTATIONS

Substation/terminal station civil design includes roads, benching, grading, drainage, fencing, yard structures, cable trenches, footings, transformer bunds, oil separators, firewalls, overhead gantries, modular control room buildings, and switch room buildings. Our engineers have worked on many substation/terminal station augmentation projects and solar and wind farm collector stations across Australia.

CIVIL AND STRUCTURAL DESIGN OF BATTERY ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEM(BESS) INFRASTRUCTURE

Australia’s Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) industry is expanding rapidly. BESS is a solution that stores energy and releases it when needed. Battery skids weigh tons and need a stable and robust foundation that can support the weight of the batteries and associated equipment.

Our engineers successfully implemented cast in-situ options, precast concrete, driven steel, and steel screw pile foundations for small to large-scale BESS projects. The site-specific solutions were developed for quick installation considering the civil contractor’s capability and site restraints, such as remoteness, soil conditions, sloping terrains, and flood levels.

UTILITY-SCALE SOLAR FARM INFRASTRUCTURE DESIGN

Solar farm design includes roads, benching, grading, drainage, fencing, cable trenches and various footings. Also, our team specializes in early works, including pile driving assessment, constructability, driven pile options, predrilled pile options and steel screw pile assessment.

ADVANCED FINITE-ELEMENT MODELLING, FIELD, AND LABORATORY TESTING

Our engineers are experienced in developing sophisticated non-linear in-elastic finite-element models for steel structures, concrete structures and soil-structure interaction problems using commercially available finite-element programs. The models can be validated using both field and idealized laboratory testing protocols. Sivcon collaborates with prestigious Australian academic institutions and professors and has access to their testing facilities.

CONDITION AND STRENGTH ASSESSMENT OF ELECTRICAL ASSETS

Many of Australia’s existing electrical assets are aging and require repair and maintenance. Sivcon engineers have experience assessing reinforced concrete, steel, and masonry substations, tunnels, and pits. Condition assessment includes visual inspection, non-destructive testing such as rebound hammer, ultrasonic tests, and GPR surveys, as well as sampling and laboratory testing.

DESIGN OF PREFABRICATED STRUCTURES

Off-site fabrication improves quality and safety and facilitates faster construction. Our engineers utilize the DfMA (Design for Manufacturing and Assembly) design philosophy and specialise in innovative connection details to meet in-service conditions, facilitate transportation, and speed up erection. Past projects include long-span roof structures and medium-rise and high-rise modular buildings.
